Photography Workshop- The Farmhouse, Matopos

Photography is something I love to do, it’s one of my favourite hobbies.  Being out in the bush most of the time there is an abundance of opportunities to take photos.

Attending Jason’s workshop has helped me understand so many different aspects of taking great photos.  Composition, patience, taking a little more time especially in landscape photography, something that can change the entire photo!  Understanding that there can be great “memory” photos, and then just Great Photos.

Jason was very patient and had an incredible ability to explain things to me in a way that made it easy to understand.  Simplifying the explanations of the settings of my camera, having fun, the do’s and don’ts, amazing night photography, aspect ratios, preset functions and so much more.  Helping me understand what over-editing looks like and that a little editing is acceptable!  Its like a whole new world of photography has opened up.

Definitely a very worthwhile workshop, no matter the level of your expertise!

Thank you so much for doing what you do.

Talk- A Guides View Pt 1&2

I have been fortunate to be present at two talks by Jason at Mold camera club. The first gave a fascinating insight into his life in Zimbabwe, and the beautiful wildlife he lived and worked alongside. The second talk covered the ongoing environmental and man made battles that the people and wildlife experience.
Jason’s passion, knowledge and storytelling make for a very engaging evening.

Presentation- Landscapes My Way

Morning Jason

I hope your journey home was straightforward.

Whilst I know that one of the new Programme Team will be in touch with our 'official' thanks, I wanted to take the opportunity to give my personal thanks for your lecture and - what was effectively a masterclass - last evening.

Even before leaving the club last night I'd received very positive feedback from some of our members, and that plus the raft of questions you received from such experienced photographers as Bryan and Andrew told me that what you covered was exactly what we were looking for - and needed!

Saturday 24th August 2025  - Farmhouse Matopos Photography Workshop

On Saturday I attended the One Day’  Workshop at The FarmHouse. We covered the creative modes on our cameras, which was very  informal to  me, as this has never been explained to me.

Jason then took us  through African Wildlife Photography which once  again was so informative.  We then went out into the private game sanctuary and put into practice what  we had learnt in the theory. Jason assisted all participants who needed  assistance with various challenges they were experiencing.

From my own experience this was an amazing day as I learnt so much and I am now feeling confident with my camera & the photo’s that I am now  taking. Jason has me now working on Manual from Auto and I can see the  improvements in my photographs and  I am enjoying my photography.

Jason is very patient  and  knowledgeable on all aspects  of  photography.

Photography Workshop- The Farmhouse, Matopos

"Thank you for the time that we had at The Farmhouse in Bulawayo. Your knowledge of the bush combined with your Photographic expertise made the practical aspect of the course invaluable. Spending time with a professional photographer helped me to understand that there is so much more to photography than just pointing a camera and pressing a button."

Wednesday 20th August 2025 – Night Photography.

As an owner of a camera and watching  many documentaries with  amazing  night  skies, I always wanted to know how  this was achieved.  Having asked  fellow  photographers, was always told it was a difficult subject. Jason asked me to join him at the  airstrip  and to bring  my  camera for  some  night  photography.  After dinner he checked if the night sky constellations were conducive to night photography and it was. As it was still winter the air  was crisp and  clear with very little light pollution. We setup our tripods and camera’s . Jason assisted with setting my camera and explaining what was going to take  place, the we got clicking way, with  some amazing shots taken. We also took time to play with light. It was an amazing evening . Still need to practice more.
